Important Dates To Remember When Preparing For Summer

Spring has sprung and summer is just around the corner. You can’t wait! Lazy days in the sun, perfect weather for outdoor activities and soft summer breezes are in the not too distant future. Here are some important dates to remember when preparing for summer.

By the beginning of June you should be making sure your deck is up to snuff for summer entertaining. That means giving the deck a new coat of stain and replacing any worn or damaged patio furniture. New cushions always add a nice touch and now’s a good time to give your patio furniture a new coat of paint or stain too.

It’s time to give the BBQ a thorough checkup and cleaning and why not get the propane tank filled while you’re at it. If the BBQ is in need of new grates or coals now is the time to replace them. If your propane tank has expired then you’ll need to replace it. Heck perhaps this is the year to buy a new BBQ, there’s some pretty fancy ones available these days!

By mid June you should have your flower beds tended to, rock work, stones, and cement all cleaned, and your overall yard looking real good! Now’s the time to add those special new plants you’ve been dying to buy or perhaps do a little rearranging of the lawn ornaments.

This is also a good time to check all your sport gear, fishing gear, and camping gear. It won’t be long before you’ll want to head out and what a disappointment to discover broken equipment. Replace any equipment that’s damaged. This is a good time to buy new batteries, replacement bulbs, and give the tent a water repellant coating.

The 21st of June is the first day of summer so why not bring summer in with a bang? Why not make this your first BBQ get together with friends. After a long winter aren’t you looking forward to great food and great friends making a great evening? After all you’ve been busy getting everything ready for summer now’s a great time to show up your projects.

July 1st in Canada and July 4th in the United States brings a long weekend so if you’re wanting to get away with the family you should be making any reservations by the beginning of June. This is a great time to sneak away to the lake for a few days, enjoy the cabin, or go camping in the back woods. Since you’ve already checked all your gear all you need to do is pack up and head on out. Don’t forget to take in the fireworks displays that are so common for this major celebration!

By the time you return from your long weekend getaway you should have planned all your summer getaways. If you’re planning to take a vacation you should have all your plans finalized. Weekend getaways make sure you’ve got your accommodations booked as this is the busiest time of the year.

If you have kids or you are a student by mid August you need to start to get ready for back to school. Avoid the last minute rushes. Start shopping now. Begin to pick up school supplies, school wardrobes, new runners, and any other supplies needed before things get picked over.

This is also the time to start to consider any outside projects you have left that you didn’t get finished. It’s always best to get these done before the rains come and the cooler weather. So if you’ve been planning to check the roof – do it now. Clean the gutters? Do it now.

By the end of August you should start to deal with yard waste disposal and clean up. This is also the time to do some serious house cleaning too. Use the 6 month rule. If you haven’t used it in 6 months you don’t need it. If it’s still in usable condition donate it to a charity of your choice.

For most summer is the favorite season. Warm temperatures allow for a wealth of outdoor activity. It’s a great time for get togethers and a perfect time to relax and soak up some rays.

By remembering important dates and preparing for summer early you’ll have more free time to actually enjoy the summer season.
