Gone are the days of packing around bulky CD disks and your Discman. No more song skipping as you walk down the street. The iPod brings us the next generation of listening to music and boy what an improvement!
Compact, sexy, cool, and versatile are just a few of the terms that come to mind when you mention iPod. Launched in 2001, with 2004 seeing the sale of 8 million iPod’s.
“Beam me up Scotty.” Remember the little tri-corder that was used on Star Trek. How futuristic we all thought that was. Impossible to build something so small and functional.
Well the iPod might not beam you up but it will allow you to have instant access to over 10,000 songs in a device the size of a tri-corder. For you non trecky people that’s smaller than the size of a cigarette pack.
The iPod has changed the way we listen to music! Now you can take your tunes anywhere with no hassle. Can you imagine how many CDs you’d have to pack to have 10,000 songs available? Get your suitcase out! That’s equal to 700 CDs. With the iPod you can take your entire music collection with you.
And it’s versatility doesn’t stop there. Purchase an adapter and plug it into your car stereo or home stereo. At your next party you’ll have all your tunes handy. Planning to go for a jog? Not a problem! Tuck it in your pocket and off you go. No more skipping songs.
But wait there’s more! You can save your word documents to it and your pictures too. You can organize your music into genres or by artist. Don’t like a song simply erase it. It takes only seconds to burn a CD to your iPod and you can add to your collection or change your collection anytime.
Thanks to the iPod music has become even more important to us. Because it’s so easy to record and take with you we are now spending a great deal more time listening to our favorite tunes. Some say the iPod is just a fad. But I doubt that a device so useful and versatile is going to go away. That is not until something smaller and more impressive comes along and then we could see some changes.
The newest Apple iPod is the iPod Video which is the third iPod model in the 5th generation. The three 5th generation models are the iPod Shuffle, iPod video, and iPod Nano. There are some differences in these 5th generation iPod's compared to the 4th generation ones.
The iPod shuffle and the iPod Nano both have flash hard disk technology which is an extremely slim hard disk that can withstand shock and movement better than any previous drive. Active sport events, dancing, or even a drop isn’t going to hurt this little gem. And because of the slim drive it’s a much slimmer machine than the 4th generation iPod’s.
The battery life has also been improved which was a big problem with the last generation. The new battery design is good for 14 hours of play and has a much longer life span.
The new line of iPod’s also offer a colored screen and the iPod Video has a wide range of recording capabilities. Record data, photos, video, and of course music.
There are plenty of other improvements to the 5th generation of iPod’s. A quick search online will provide you will all the improvements. And of course there are plenty of other MP3 manufacturers that you can choose from.
The iPod has been the leader in the industry for a few years but many manufacturers that are now offering comparable products at a variety of competitive prices. So shop around.
One thing is for certain the Apple iPod has certainly changed the way we listen to music. And no matter what the future brings in MP3 players they will always hold the title of being “first.”
