The world has been taken over by video games. Not too many years ago it was a child or teen’s world. With packman and the likes kids were attracted to playing these video games. But the world of video games has changed allot. Now they are designed for young and old players.
The selection of games and the quality of the graphic of the video games now exceeds our wildest dreams of just a few years ago. Today you can race a car, boat, or motorcycle. You can build a city, invade other planets, or be a player on your favorite hockey team. You can be a superhero and battle monsters from other worlds, or be a martial arts expert fighting other warriors.
Your choices are endless! Whether you own a Sony playstation, an Xbox, or a game cube you have so many choices. Games such as NHL, Silent Hill, The Redemption, and Donkey Kong have taken the world by storm.
The graphics are incredible, and the challenge exhilarating. The levels of expertise range from easy to extremely difficult. Some games are pure sport, while games for the younger levels can be very educational. Did you ever think your child would be learning their ABC’s playing a video game.
No matter which game don’t underestimate the educational value. First there is the dexterity thing. Have you ever tried to hit the right buttons at the right time as your car travels down the race track? Try it. You’ll be quickly impressed with your teen’s skill level.
Then there is the eye hand coordination. Not only do they have to move quickly, hit the right buttons, they have to process their decision in their brain at lightening speed and then transfer that information to their hands. Incredible.
Oh yes let’s not forget the challenge to the thinking process. These games are a terrific way for young and old to improve their critical thinking skills, and their quick thinking skills. When playing video games the decision must be quick and these skills are very useful for real life as well.
You will often hear parents and teachers criticizing video games and lobbying to have them band. If played too often where they interfere with normal activities they can lead to poor mental and physical health. But played occasionally they are an excellent educational tool. Contrary to what you hear about them being responsible for all the doom and gloom of modern society I beg to differ.
What we know for sure is that kids love video games and more and more adults are getting into the game too. In fact now with national tours that are worth huge dollars in prizes more and more adults have began to play games.
The most important thing a parent can do when it comes to video games is be involved in the purchasing. Understand what the game is about, find out the rating on the game, and watch for changes in behavior in your teens when playing these games. Some games are very violent and very gory and should not be played by children.
All video games are now rated just like movies. Use this information when deciding which games are acceptable and which are not.
People have been playing games on their computers since the early 1950s when the first computers came out. The first game played was chess. The early games were very basic with no graphics or very basic graphics. Look where we’ve come.
Today computer games have the same graphics as other video games and are a true interactive experience. Gaming has been around for decades and it’s not likely to go away anytime soon.
Pong was the first arcade game to be sold to the home market back in the early 1970s. It was quickly followed by Atari who had a full range of game entertainment for their machines. With Atari’s success many other companies were quick to jump on the video game band wagon.
By the 1980s the graphics had dramatically improved. Nintendo and Sega were two game machines to hit this market. In 2001 the Xbox and playstation2 took the market by storm with graphics never seen before and a very wide selection of games. Either of these machines could accommodate players of all ages.
From the days of the basic chess game to the full hockey game or NASCAR race games have come to be an art form of their own. What the future has to offer can only be imagined. Anyone want to guess?
