Archaeological sites and a distinguished collection of numerous churches, monasteries and mosques are among the attractions that the island is renowned for, all within easy reach of the major towns and cities. Great entertainments, shopping, and water sports are also main features, besides the historic sites. The unspoilt rural areas and many historic sites make a visit worthy. Ever since the European Community granted Cyprus full membership in May 2004, the island has rapidly achieved a status as popular choice of island to live on.
