There’s no question sports cars are the ultimate driving machine and they look real sweet too! But choosing the best sports car can be tough. There are so many great buys on the market it’s a tough call. Here are the top sports car picks for this year. From there you’ll have to decide for yourself.
The Hyundai Tiburon offers up top notch pricing and performance. What a combo! It’s built well and it’s an agile sports coupe. The 2.7 liter V6 with 172 HP combined with the performance exhaust makes this a great ride and a fun to drive.
Standard features include air conditioning, power windows, door locks, heated mirrors, audio system with 6 speakers, keyless entry, alarm, side impact airbags, 16” alloy wheels, rear spoiler, dual chrome exhaust, 4 wheel disc breaks.
Comes standard with the 5 speed manual transmission but 4 speed automatic is optional. Sunroof is also an option.
It’s sleek contouring makes this a real looker. Heavily raked windshield, fastback coupe with classic lines yet very distinctive.
The Mitsubishi Eclipse is a comparable car and the Tiburon comes in substantially less in price. You’ll also get the 5 year/50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and the 10 year/100,000 mile power train warranty. Lots of bang for you buck here!
The Mitsubishi Eclipse has become more main stream then it’s predecessor of the late 1990s. It’s more comfortable, more refines, and it’s also heavier. The Mits Eclipse has a kick ass motor with its V6 3.8 liter motor delivering a whopping 263 horsepower. 5.8 seconds makes it the fastest Eclipse ever!
It’s biggest draw back is the tires aren’t able to handle the power. Thump on it and you’ll find it zig zagging down the road. Step on it while turning and you’ll find it has horrible under steer. Even though it sits with 18” tires there’s just so much a tire can handle when it comes to a power horse.
The new six speed transmission is a real treat. Reliable and easy shifting with a very forgiving clutch. Draw back is the throws are long and this means shifting is a whole lot less fun.
The inside proves to be much better than in the past. Everything is easy to reach including the elevated stereo. You even get two power outlets. Oh yes and then there’s the fabulous aluminum pedals. The back seat however is very uncomfortable and almost forces one into the fetal position with no leg room and no head room. An accident wouldn’t be pretty.
The Eclipse sits right in the price range of the Honda Acura S and the differences are clear. The Honda is ready to be thrashed. In fact it’s begging for it while the heavy Eclipse seems to fit more in the sporty luxury car than the sports class itself. Perhaps the future will see the true Mitsubishi Eclipse back.
The Mazda Miata was built on the platform of the all time favorites like Triumph and MG but without the heavy repair costs. Since its inception Miata has come to mean “affordable sports car.” But the Miata was due for a facelift and that’s just what it got with the new stiffer platform while still preserving the overall size of the Miata. After all that’s what made it so popular!
And the new Miata is a dream to drive. One run through the curves and you’ll be hooked with its natural agility. It’s tight, it’s got great control, and it’s a true sports car. What more could one ask for fun and practicality all rolled into one?
The 17” tires are truly insane but boy does this car cling to the road. You can enter corners way too fast [not recommended] and suffer no consequences. However you need to watch for the over steer if you step on the brakes. It can take you by surprise and be a bit frightening.
The noise is energizing with the roof down but it can be a bit a bit annoying with the roof up. You’ll want to turn up the tunes. The little extra room has resulted in more comfortable seating and legroom, tilt steering, and a better view through the windshield. It’s sporty and fun! It also has had side airbags added which is a nice safety feature.
This little gem comes with few complaints and Miata lovers “love it!” In fact this slightly sexier Miata with it’s face lift is drawing a whole new market. Priced a little higher than similar cars but then there are really nothing that directly competes with this true roadster sports car.
These top picks are just a few of the great sports cars hitting the scenes this season. Be sure to do your research and take them all for a drive. Your top pick will be the one you fall in love with. And you’ll recognize it instantly! So if this is the year to buy a new sports car to your don’t you think it’s time to get shopping?
