Beveled stained glass combines the texture technique of beveling, or angle cutting, glass with colored glass designs. By combining these two technique artists and manufacturers are able to create beautiful and unique pieces of art. This technique is very popular and it can be seen in a number of different items including window panels, picture frames, doors, and cabinets.
The first place that you are likely to see beveled stained glass is in picture frames. This process can be mass produced, and as a result the picture frames that use this combination of techniques are generally reasonably priced. You should be able to find these frames priced anywhere from $10 to $100. Also because this process is easy for machines to handle you will have a larger selection of frames to choose from in this category as opposed to a frame that only uses stained glass in its design.
The second item that beveled stained glass is used in is doors. Exterior door inserts and beveled glass panels are a popular way of adding character, style, and color to an entryway. These panels can be mass produced in popular sizes, shapes, and designs, however, if you can afford to pay more for your glass insert or panel then you can have a customer piece made for your door and design style. These panels have become very popular for use in log cabins and high end designer homes. If you decide to use one of these door panels on an exterior door make sure that the glass is properly treated and cemented into their frames to prevent water damage and leakage into your home. You will also want to make sure that you clean these panels frequently to prevent discoloration and water spots from developing.
The next items that use beveled stained glass are window panels. In this instance the beveling is used to frame in a stained glass design, or the stained glass is used to highlight the joints of the beveling and the center of the window panel remains clear. These items are more expensive than regular window panes because they require extra steps in their manufacturing, however, if you stick to common sizes, shapes, and designs you can buy one for a reasonable price. If you have the money to buy a custom piece then your design can reflect your tastes and the size and shape of the panel can be designed around the design of your home’s architecture.
The fourth set of items that uses this combination of beveling and stained glass art are cabinets. This technique is used to upgrade standard cabinets and it is a great way to change the look of your kitchen. The price associated with using this type of glass in your cabinets will depend on whether you have standard cabinets or custom sized cabinets, what type of frame you use, the design of the glass, the number of colors used, how fast you want it, how many panels you need, and what installation costs you will have.
