Select The Best Golf Clubs For Your Game

By Lawrence Bredenkamp

I had to have a little chuckle to myself when researching the best way to select the best golf clubs for your game. Why, you may ask, did I chuckle. Well everywhere I went and every article I read was obviously so biased. There are so many of “the best” or “unique” products out there it is laughable.

I think what I learned from all this is that you need to be aware that everyone is trying to make a living and that may mean getting you to part with your dollar. Now that’s not altogether a bad thing, you are after all in the market to buy new set of clubs. The question is which set and from whom.

But don’t fret too long over the question. It could be you take so long to decide that you have lost out on a few games already.

My advice is select a brand that you are comfortable with, even if you have been influenced by advertising, golf is after all a game about feeling good. I have a particular brand I fancy and I have never deviated from them. I am sure there are other brands out there just as good and some may even be better for me. But I am happy.

So if this is your first (beginner’s) set select a brand name and go and buy a good quality little used second hand set for as little as possible. If on the other hand you are after and upgrade, probably a new set, I would suggest you savour the moment. A new set of golf clubs is a real treat and shopping for them should be fun.

Once again I would choose a brand name and then for a few extra dollars I would get fitted for them. There is nothing quite as confident boosting as standing over a ball, club in hand, with the knowledge that the club has been specifically matched to your height, posture and swing. It certainly takes a lot of worry out of the mechanics. Your normal swing should have the exact desired effect on the ball.

Having a custom fitted set ensures that the clubs you buy now will last you for many years to come and you should get top results out of them.

To conclude: in order to select the best golf clubs for your game find something that you feel good possessing and happy to pay for. If the real reason you like them is because one of your heroes plays with them then that is OK. They’re yours, you paid for them and they make you feel good. Have fun.
