Bird Watching in Your Own Backyard
If you like watching the fluttering, fanciful nature and frolicking of birds, you probably already know that watching birds right outside your window or in your own backyard can truly be entertaining. It's incredible just how many different species you can see. If you haven't noticed that many birds in your yard, there are some things that you can try that will attract them. With bird baths, different kinds of bird feeders and a couple of bird houses, you will soon have some special visitors out back.
You'll find an assortment of different bird feeders out there, and the bulk of them fall into one of three different categories. There are tray feeders, tube feeders, and hoppers. Tube bird feeders are cylindrical, with perches at the holes where the feed comes out. Tube feeders are great for various types of seed, just as long as the holes are big enough for it to come through. Hopper feeders will be attractive to birds that could be leery of tray or tube feeders. Tray feeders are perfect for birds that are smaller. If it isn't really important what types of birds visit your yard, and you would rather enjoy and appreciate any birds that come, you can purchase a general seed bird food. Most bird seed appeals to a number of different types of birds, since it has got a number of varieties of seed. If you prefer to have a specific bird species to come to your yard, then you'll need to include a food or seed that is appealing to that particular species.
A bird bath is a fantastic thing to include in your backyard if you'd like to attract more birds. They like to splash in the water, and as long as it's kept clean, they'll love it even more. You can select from traditional bird baths, or you can opt for something a little bit different, like a fountain that's solar powered. A bird bath with moving water will be attractive to birds that customarily wouldn't frequent an everyday fountain, including warblers, robins, thrushes and humming birds. Birds especially enjoy moving water, and it will attract them easily. Bird baths are also terrific looking in your garden. There are people who love bird baths because they bring the birds closer than they customarily would. Bird baths are a great opportunity to take some fantastic photographs, and enjoy the birds' company.
If you want to put a birdhouse in your yard, there is a real chance that birds will nest in it. They will not only visit the birdhouse every now and then, but if it feels secure and warm, they might decide to make it where they hatch their eggs. This would be truly delightful since you may even get to sneak a glimpse at the babies every so often, or when it's time for them to start flying. Not only is a birdhouse a delightful yard decoration, but it is a place the birds will enjoy as well. There are of course different sizes, shapes and kinds of birdhouses, and the one you decide on is going to depend a lot on your particular taste.
These three things can help make your backyard more attractive to birds. Some other easy things you can add are crevices and openings so the birds can hide, and sweet-scented flowers. If birds feel safe in your yard, they should stick around. Have a great time backyard bird watching!
