Learn How To Detail Your Car Like The Pros

There’s no question about it we have a love affair with our cars! After all they are an important part of our self expression. And when we finally get that car of our dreams we want it to look real good now and always. That’s why you need to learn how to detail your car like the pros.

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could protect our car like we protect our favorite piece of art? Unfortunately that’s not the case. Your car is exposed to a wealth of environmental exposures throughout the day. From debris on the roads, weather elements, salt, dirt, dust, water, sun, smog and the list goes on and on.

The good news is you can keep your car in pristine condition both outside and inside just by learning to detail like the pros.

When it comes to the exterior of your car and the paint the most important thing is to avoid scratches. They are your car’s number one enemy. If you can avoid scratches you can keep your car looking great!

When you wash your car you actually rub that dirt and grime into the paint which has a sandpaper effect that then causes scratches. Therefore you need to remember that anything that will come in contact with your car’s paint has to be soft. So no hard bristle brushes and no automatic car washes!

You also need to protect your car from the elements. A good start to this is parking it in a garage although that’s not always an option. So for those times when your car will be exposed to the elements you need to make sure it has the right protectant on the paint to eliminate damage.

Start by applying a good paint sealant to your car. Then apply a good coat of wax. You need to apply wax on a regular basis. This will accomplish a few things. It will make it easier for you to remove bird droppings and other debris without damaging the paint, it will stop the paint from oxidizing, and it will make the car look “real good.”

Be sure to choose a wax that’s appropriate for the type of paint you have. Some waxes can damage lacquer or clear coat finishes so read the labels carefully. Others do not work on dark colored paints. Always choose a wax that is non-abrasive.

Park the car in a cool shady so that the sun doesn’t get a chance to bake the wax on. Do not wax your car in extreme hot or cold temperatures. Use a wax sponge to apply the wax. Start by dipping you sponge into the can or squirting from the bottle a gob of wax that is about the size of a loony.

Now rub the wax onto the car in a circular motion. Keep your circles small and avoid getting the wax into the seams because it’s difficult to remove. If this does happen you’ll need a soft toothbrush to remove it.

Do your car in sections starting at the front working down the body around the back and then up the other side. Do a small area about 2 foot square, then apply the wax to the next area, returning back to remove the first square which is now dry. Continue this process around the car.

To remove the wax and polish you need a very soft cloth which ensure you do not create any scratches and it will also give you the optimum shine.

You should make regular inspections of your car to look for any damage. Scratches and scuffs should be dealt with right away using matching touch up paint provided by the dealer. That way the damage will be limited.

You can clean your interior using a variety of over the counter products such as Armerol. This will ensure the insider material remain soft and pliable and it give the interior a new look again. Of course you’ll also want to vacuum and clean all the windows.

There are some excellent products available to shine your tires, polish your rims, for any chrome on your car, and any other detailing job you might have so be sure to have a look online or visit your local parts store.
