Alligator Fashion Accessories Have Made A Huge Comeback

It’s no secret anytime something is difficult to get everyone wants it. Alligator fashion accessories are no different. Since the 1970s and early 1980s when we saw alligator fashions dwindle to nothing, alligator fashion accessories have made a huge comeback!

Alligators themselves aren’t new to the planet, in fact they’ve been around longer than we have, dating back 20 million years. But in 1967 they were put on the endangered species list and these had a devastating affect to the alligator fashion industry.

By the late 1980s the alligator had been returned to its early numbers and was no longer endangered. But the industry has had a tough time recovering even though new methods of alligator farming are endorsed by environmentalists. Louisiana is the top producer of farmed alligator in the world. It’s not just the skins of alligator that are used. The meat is used and so are the teeth and claws. And 1% of all farmed animals are released back into the wild, an assurance that the alligator will never become endangered again.

That is until a sexy young model strutted down the New York runway in September of 2000 wearing an alligator skin bustier by designer Christina Perrin. It was more than just a designer fashion statement. It was to begin a whole new trend towards owning alligator fashion accessories.

Alligator hides make wonderful wallets, purses, shoes, and belts, and now they even make interesting and unusual women’s lingerie. The demand for alligator products has grown so quickly that its actually created a back log in supply. And you know what happens to prices when a product is considered rare. Up up and away.

But the consumer purchasing these products doesn’t care. They recognize the beauty, quality, and uniqueness of these accessories be it a handbag, pair of shoes, or a belt. They know that they will get years of wear from these beautiful items. Never mind the fashion statement they’ll make.

So what can you wear alligator skin with? Black Alligator is very contemporary so it looks great with contemporary fashions. Chestnut Alligator looks great with charcoal grey and it’s a great choice to accent a tan and brown wardrobe.

Realistically Alligator accessories look awesome with almost any wardrobe item. They’ll dress up a pair of jeans, add style to a business suit, or add a little bit of fun to that night on the town outfit. Alligator works for dressy and casual looks.

Alligator fashion accessories are timeless. It can be repaired, refurbished, and even handed down in your will. It used to be an item that stood the wealthy apart from the working class, but no more. Alligator is still relatively pricey but it has become more affordable so the working class are now able to enjoy its beauty too.

Alligator fashions are no longer made from wild alligator hides. Rather gators are farmed and a great deal of effort goes into ensuring they remain a renewable resource.

Although modern farming techniques are endorsed by environmental groups around the world, surprisingly still only 40% of women consider it socially acceptable to wear alligator accessories.

What’s even more ironic is the 60% that want no feel it’s unethical to wear alligator are generally the same ones after their first encounter with a 1000 pound alligator and all those teeth, can’t wait to have them all killed.

American marketers are working hard to raise that 40% in the US to at least 50%. For those that recognize the value and beauty of alligator accessories they don’t mind that other woman haven’t caught on. There is no question that alligator fashion accessories have made a huge comeback and growth is expected to continue.
